I just found out about this event today that is only a day away! It always sucks finding out about huge fun and unique events after they are already over so I felt the need to share this with everyone as soon as I found out about it!! Wondering what CicLAvia is exactly? 9 miles of LA’s downtown streets will be shut down for the day and people will be allowed to walk, jog, run, roller blade, skate board, ride a bike or anything else with wheels that doesn’t have a motor attached. I lifted this from the website www.ciclavia.org “Connecting communities and giving people a break from the stress of car traffic. The health benefits are immense. Ciclovías bring families outside of their homes to enjoy the streets, our largest public space. In Los Angeles we need CicLAvia more than ever. Our streets are congested with traffic, our air is polluted with toxic fumes, our children suffer from obesity and other health conditions caused by the scarcity of public space and safe, healthy transportation options. CicLAvia creates a temporary park for free, simply by removing cars from city streets. It creates a network of connections between our neighborhoods and businesses and parks with corridors filled with fun. We can’t wait to see you at CicLAvia!”
This looks to be a fun opportunity to get out, get some exercise and see downtown without all of the traffic for one day out of the year! There is more info on the website about parking and street closures. This is not something I have heard of any other city doing but other cities may have other events that promote good health, bringing the community together, and cutting down on emissions. What other events are happening around the country on this scale that promote these things as well? I would like to hear what other events are happening if any. Please leave some feedback to let other readers, as well as myself, know what’s going on in our country to promote healthy happy lives!
If you are looking for more to do than just exercising check out the website for more action. There will be music, dance, exhibits from the natural history museum, and much more!
This sounds AWESOME JR! How about one of these in Buffalo?

I think it would be great! They could do it the week after Taste of Buffalo so people can work off all the food they ate….lol
